Sofiya Yakubovskaya

Since I work in the Highline Art Gallery as its attendant, I get to experience firsthand what it offers and what it takes to make it all possible. Every quarter we try and have a new exhibit up in the gallery and so far we’ve had four, each with its own theme. The purpose of having a gallery is to showcase students’ work. It’s like a gift for our community on campus because art means different things to different people. But, most art evokes emotion, it can inspire people to be more creative, and it enriches lives. Art is just another way of visually expressing yourself and being able to share that with others is important because it unites us, gives us something to think about, and it opens doors that we’ve never seen before.
