Highline’s newest bachelor of applied science degree takes a holistic approach to design by combining your passion for visual design, technology and problem solving with accessibility, equity and universal design. Discover the relationships between various design fields and prepare yourself to become part of the next generation of forward-thinking designers.

Highline College is located in Des Moines, Washington in South King County, an area with a strong thriving economy. The BAS in Integrated Design will prepare students to work in a diverse range of design firms and innovative businesses.

 Career Outlook

In King County, the median advertised salary for design professionals with bachelor’s degrees is $65,000 per year. Job growth holds steady; the demand for designers in King County is 71% higher than the national average. Students who complete this degree will be competitive in the current job market demands (Lightcast, 2023).

 Sample Careers include (specialization dependent)

Graphic Designer, Creative Director, User Interface Designer, Print and Publication Designer, Video Editor, Animator, Residential/Commercial/Corporate Interior Designer, Kitchen and Bath Designer, CAD Technician, Architectural/Civil/Electrical Drafter, Landscaping Drafter.

 Program Cost

$14,772 plus books and other fees, or about half of what you would pay at a state university such as UW-Tacoma.

 Program Length

Two years for full-time students. (Full-time is 12 credits or more)

 Program Eligibility

Completed a regionally accredited AAS or AAS-T degree with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better.

Flexible Courses

Don’t think you have the time to pursue a BAS degree? Highline knows that you are busy and may need to juggle work and/or family obligations. Highline offers flexible course schedules with on-campus classes, online classes and hybrid options where classes combine face-to-face learning with online learning. And if space is available, you can begin the program any quarter.

Equity & Diversity

BAS in Integrated Design is built on three pillars: design across disciplines, integration of technology, and equity-based design.  This degree will be interdisciplinary in nature with program outcomes focused on design theory, process, interactive technology, equity-based design and leadership.  This degree and its outcomes reflect the evolving needs of the community and workplace.

This degree will include a focus on diversity and globalism studies, to ensure that designers will have a foundation focused on equity, which will help them understand the world and community in which they design.

Do your first two years here in our established Art and Design Department, then seamlessly transition to upper-division coursework. A bachelor’s degree qualifies you for higher wages and prepares you for progression into higher-level specialized technical or managerial positions.
